Possible Carjacking Leads to Shootout in West Atlanta

Posted

ATLANTA (AP) - A possible carjacking victim and an Atlanta police officer have been wounded during a shootout.

Atlanta police tell local news outlets that officers received a call early Monday from a man who said his friend had been carjacked and abducted. Police found the Mustang in west Atlanta, and stopped the car, which was being driven by the car's owner.

Atlanta police spokeswoman Kim Jones says the driver, 45-year-old Derrick Grayson, got out of the Mustang and ran toward police. The passenger got out and began shooting Grayson and then police.

An officer returned fire, but the passenger fled in a second vehicle, the 911 caller's car. He left the car about a mile away and fled on foot.

Jones says Grayson was shot in the arms and legs, and is in the hospital in stable condition. The officer sustained minor injuries.
