TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) - Governor Scott declared a state of emergency in Alachua county to allow greater coordination among law enforcement agencies.

Declaring a state of emergency allows the Alachua Sheriff to bring in law enforcement from surrounding counties to boost the protection of the community.

Law enforcement prepared for an increased amount of traction. Political expert Dr. Ed Moore says "alt right" supporters and Richard Spencer in particular have mastered the technique of attracting media attention. Emergency management stepped up for occurrences like the one in Charlottesville, Virginia earlier this year.

Dr. Moore believes Governor Scott reacted properly by enabling local control to get the help they need.

He says, "There are people on the detraction side that are also trying to do what he's trying to do, get attention for themselves. They'll do anything to get that attention and then you have a clash of ill will from both sides and its a recipe for disaster if you're not prepared." The state of emergency will ensure the University and county are prepared for any situation.

Dr. Moore notes how Spencer draws in opposition and the press, stating "the more radical you are the more attention you get."

Spencer said over 200 media requests came in for the event.
