TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A Tallahassee man has been charged with attempted homicide after police say he stabbed his girlfriend multiple times, causing one of her lungs to collapse.

Flay Rollins Jr., 47, was arrested by the Tallahassee Police Department on Tuesday.

Officers responded to Glen Oaks Apartments on Tuesday at about 2:12 a.m. in response to a stabbing. When officers arrived on scene, they found the victim lying face down on the edge of the sofa in the living room.

According to the arrest document, while on scene, officers made contact with several witnesses, two who saw Rollins stab the victim twice in the back, and another who heard them arguing.

A Leon County Deputy was flagged down by Rollins in the parking lot. The deputy saw what he believed to be a large blood stain on Rollins' shirt and turned over custody of Rollins to TPD officers.

After agreeing to speak with officers, Rollins said he and the victim were in a heated altercation and at some point the victim went into the kitchen and grabbed three knives.

Rollins stated at that point he decided to leave the apartment, but she followed him. He said once they were outside, the victim charged at him with the three knives.

Documents say Rollins told officers that he pushed the victim into the wall to avoid getting stabbed and that she started "swinging" the knives at him, acting "crazy."  He stated he was able to take one of the knives out of the victim's hand and "bear hugged" her from behind to try to restrain her.

He held her for a short time before running through the parking lot and flagging down the deputy because he was in fear of his life.

Rollins denied stabbing the victim and said he did not know how the blood stains got on his shirt, stating that it could have happened when he "bear hugged" her.

The victim was taken by ambulance to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital and was placed on trauma alert due to one of her lungs collapsing.

At the hospital, documents say officers briefly talked with the victim.

She told officers that her and Rollins were in a heated argument before the stabbing. As they walked outside and continued arguing, the victim said Rollins suddenly pulled out a knife and started stabbing her in the back.

Based on the provided evidence, Rollins is being charged with attempted homicide. He was taken to the Leon County Detention Facility and his bond has been set at $20,000.
