TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A 16-year-old boy has been arrested for grand auto theft after he stole two running vehicles, crashing both of them.

He crashed one vehicle and then, after taking the second vehicle, hit an unmarked Leon County Sheriff's Office car and a marked Tallahassee Police Department unit, the Leon County Sheriff's Office said in a news release.

The first vehicle the teen took Monday was a rental vehicle the victim had left running in the driveway to warm up.

A short time later, the Consolidated Dispatch Agency received a call about a crashed, white Hyundai Sonata wrecked in the area of Roberts Avenue and Rankin Road.

The caller said they had also left their vehicle running in the driveway and said the suspect also took that vehicle.

That vehicle was located a short time later in the 3500 block of Roberts Avenue. Units with LCSO and TPD attempted to stop the vehicle and the driver hit an unmarked LCSO car, as well as a marked TPD unit. It then left the area.

The LCSO helicopter located the stolen vehicle on Roberts Avenue and directed units to its location.

As units arrived in the area, the vehicle crashed on Roberts Avenue at Tate Street and the driver ran into a nearby residence, which was occupied.

The 16-year-old suspect was arrested outside the residence on Tate Street and taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center. He faces charges of grand theft auto (2 charges), aggravated fleeing and eluding, burglary of dwelling, and resisting arrest without violence.
