TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A Tallahassee man has been arrested after he was caught tying up an inebriated woman with tape.
Adrian Johnson, 33, has been charged with felony battery (second offense) and false imprisonment.
According to an arrest document, a state trooper was flagged down by a passerby around 4 a.m. on Dec. 30 who said he saw a woman being tied up by a man at the intersection of North Monroe Street and West Carolina Street.
The trooper said that he went to the intersection after completing a traffic stop and saw a man, later identified as Johnson, on the ground "bear hugging" a woman around the chest with his legs wrapped around hers in an attempt to restrain her.
Documents say that as the trooper approached, the victim managed to get away from Johnson while he stayed on the ground. The trooper asked for Johnson's ID but he refused, trying to hide a blue roll of tape in his backpack.
After speaking with the trooper, the officer spoke to Johnson. Documents say Johnson did not appear to be under the influence or incoherent while speaking with the officer.
Johnson told the officer that he had known the victim for several years and spotted her when he boarded a city bus around 4:30 p.m. that day. He said that the victim was drinking alcohol on the bus at the time.
The two got off the bus together and went to an unknown park on the "southside." Sometime while they were there, Johnson claimed that the victim randomly started hitting him for no reason. To keep her from hitting him, Johnson slapped her on her face and denied slapping her more than once.
Around 7:30 p.m., Johnson said they moved to another area in the park where they engaged in sexual activities. Johnson told the officer that they returned to the bus station afterward only to find that they had missed their bus.
Afraid they would get trespassed from the area, Johnson said that he and the victim began walking north on Monroe Street, eventually stopping at Envision Credit Union. While there, Johnson told officers that the victim started pulling on the bank's locked doors.
Fearful that they would get in trouble, Johnson said that he picked up a roll of blue "painters tape" from the ground and began tying the victim's wrists and ankles together. The victim didn't say anything while he did it, according to Johnson, so he carried her across West Carolina Street once she was bound.
Johnson said he carried her to a grassy area near the intersection of North Monroe Street and West Carolina Street, where the trooper found him.
Documents say that when the officer spoke to the victim, she "appeared to be under the influence of some form of narcotic" and was crying and screaming while the officer tried to ask her questions.
The only thing the officer could gather from her was that Johnson punched her in the face, which was consistent with a red, swollen mark under her eye. Documents note there were also red marks around her throat, indicative of someone placing their hands around her neck.
"After I finished speaking with [the victim] on scene, it was apparent she was not in a state of mind to give consent," the officer wrote in the arrest report.
In a different interview, documents say Johnson stated that the victim was so inebriated she was incoherent while he was tying her up. He also claimed that he had tied the victim up to "play a game," though he didn't elaborate on what type of game it was.
Based on the evidence, Johnson was arrested and jailed on a $10,000 bond.
