TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A Tallahassee man is facing aggravated assault charges after police say he intentionally rammed his pickup truck into a victim who previously dated his girlfriend.

Keon Person, 29, hit the victim with the truck in the 1800 block of Dawsey Street, leaving the victim with what a probable cause document described as, "injuries consistent with having been hit by a bumper."

Through an investigation police learned that Person was the current boyfriend of the victim's ex-girlfriend.

After hitting the victim with his car, documents say Person left the vehicle resting against a tree, with severe damage to the left rear quarter panel, the court document said.

According to an arrest document, the incident began on Sunday when Person and the victim both showed up at a gas station where Person's girlfriend worked, the court document said.

A witness said the two men "have a history of wanting to fight each other over issues concerning their relationships with [Person's girlfriend]."

Person wanted to fight the victim, who walked away. But Person followed the victim on foot, saying "you wanted to fight, let's fight now" until the girlfriend grabbed him and stopped him, the court document said.

Person, who was upset, then drove his truck away from the gas station at what a witness told investigators was a high rate of speed.

Another witness told police she was in her house when she heard a loud crash outside, and soon the victim came into the house and said he had been hit by a car.

Going outside, the court document says the witness saw the suspect getting out of the pickup truck and recognized him.

The victim said he was hit by the truck on his right back/hip and was under the vehicle. An investigator wrote that the victim is expected to make a full recovery and medical personnel said he appeared to not have any major injuries.

His injuries were consistent with the vehicle's front bumper having hit him, the court document said, "causing him to sustain the extra cuts and bruises on his arms."

In an interview at the Tallahassee Police Department, Person told police that the victim jumped in front of his truck, causing Person to swerve and hit him, and then he hit the tree. He said he ran away from the crash because the victim and his associates tried to "jump" him the week before.

After the interview, Person was arrested on a charge of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and booked into the Leon County Detention Center. He was released on a $1,000 bond Wednesday.
