TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL)  - A Tallahassee man is behind bars for selling drugs after he dropped multiple bags of cocaine while running from a traffic stop.

According to court documents, Tallahassee Police were patrolling the area of Dewey Street and Dent Street when they became suspicious of a vehicle on Sunday afternoon.

Police say they recognized the vehicle from a recent incident, causing them to be suspicious. After checking the license plate, police found that the driver had an active warrant out for a battery charge.

Police then pulled the vehicle over and attempted to speak with 44-year-old Donquell Brundidge.

When police approached the driver's side they say Brundidge crawled over to the passenger's side and refused to speak to them. Documents say that when police went to the passenger's side, he quickly moved back to the driver's side and ran out of the car.

Police then began chasing Brundidge and demanded he stop running. After several minutes of running, he tripped and fell, allowing police to catch up with him.

When Brundidge got up, he continued running, but was quickly detained.

Documents say Brundidge dropped a few items on the ground during the chase that police went back and searched for.

During the search, police found two plastic bags of powder cocaine on the ground nearby. Police also smelled cannabis coming from Brundidge's car, leading them to search his vehicle.

While searching the vehicle, police found cannabis in plain sight along with a plastic container with "numerous" pieces of crack cocaine inside.

Based on the evidence, Brundidge was arrested and transported to the Leon County Detention Facility. He is being charged with cocaine possession with intent to sell, in addition to a battery charge he obtained on Jan. 12.
