VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) - Valdosta State University says that police officers are investigating a off-campus shooting near Athletic Field House.
The university sent out a tweet alerting the campus to avoid the area and to report any suspicious activity.
The Lowndes County Sheriff's Office says that the shooting happened at 2:55 p.m. in the 800 Block of West Mary Street, right across from the softball fields at Valdosta State.
When officers arrived on scene, they found a man that had been shot in the upper arm/shoulder area. VPD says they provided first aid to the him until EMS arrived to transport him to the hospital.
Initial reports suggest that the victim reported some sort of fight between he and another person.
According to police, the fight reportedly began outside of an apartment.
They say the fight was then reported to continue inside an apartment where the victim was shot.
Reports say that after the victim was shot, the shooter then left the scene.
Investigators are looking for a suspect, a black male around the age of 20. They say that two people were involved in the incident, though they believe it is isolated.
There's no word on the status of the victim at this time.
