TALLAHASSEE, Fla.-- Florida State University Police are searching for one suspect after a car chase ends with a vehicle crashing into an apartment building.

FSUPD officer Major Jim Russell said it happened at about 2:21 a.m. on May 12. An FSU police officer attempted to pull over a silver Jeep Liberty for making an illegal turn on red at the intersection of Dewey Street and Tennessee Street. The suspect then drove down Woodward Avenue, turned around and drove head-on toward the officer in an attempt to ram him. The officer chased the accelerating car toward Tennessee Street, at which time another officer turned on his lights and attempted to stop the car.

The vehicle then turned onto Ocala Road and then crashed into an apartment building, entering a bedroom occupied by a male who was taken to the hospital as a precaution, but did not appear to be injured.

The suspect fled the scene. Charges may include Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, Felony Fleeing/Eluding an Officer, Leaving the Scene of a Crash and possibly more. The FSU Police Department is investigating the criminal case, while the Tallahassee Police Department is conducting the traffic crash investigation.
