WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Police say the deaths of a mother and daughter at their West Palm Beach home last month were the result of a murder-suicide.
Police announced at a news conference Thursday that 48-year-old Pamela Brooks killed her 10-year-old daughter, Alex, before taking her own life. The Palm Beach Post (http://goo.gl/RiXHCq ) reports that apparent knife wounds were found on both victims.
The mother and daughter were found Sept. 12 after Brooks' estranged husband called them to do a welfare check. The man told police he couldn't reach his wife regarding his scheduled visitation with his daughter.
Court records show Brooks was depressed and addicted to alcohol. Her husband had previously expressed fear that she would hurt their daughter and tried several times to gain full custody.
