TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A Tallahassee man has been arrested after an attempted home invasion robbery ended with him getting shot.

Chandler Strong, 30, was arrested on charges of attempted home invasion robbery with firearm.

On August 11, 2016, patrol officers responded to Adams Place Condominiums around 1:36 a.m. According to court documents, the victim said he and several friends were hanging inside his bedroom when he heard a knock at the front door.

The victim told police he found the knocking odd because he wasn't expecting anyone. The victim grabbed his friend's handgun and answered the front door. After the victim cracked the front door open, the suspect immediately shoved the barrel of a rifle in the door. Officials said the victim attempted to shove the door back closed but was unable to do so.

The victim then began fighting with Strong over the rifle in the doorway. As the two were fighting and struggling over possession of the rifle, the victim told police he grabbed the handgun from his pocket but was too afraid to pull the trigger. The victim’s friend heard the commotion and came to help.

Both continued to tussle over the gun when the victim finally decided to use the gun to fire a shot at the suspect. After the suspect was shot in his lower back, he released the rifle and ran from the scene.

The victim and his friend then left and went to another apartment to call the police. After officials spoke with one of the witnesses, he stated he heard  the suspect say something about not being alone.

Investigators then processed the scene, where blood was found in the apartment.

Approximately an hour after the incident, the suspect, identified as Chandler Strong, arrived at the Tallahassee Memorial Hospital with a gunshot wound. Strong claimed he was shot at an apartment complex on Levy Avenue and denied being involved in the incident at Adams Place Condominiums.

That same day,  investigators took a DNA mouth swab from Strong to compare to the blood found on scene.

On January 3, 2018, FDLE released a lab report that concluded the swab from Strong matched the blood at the scene.

Based on the evidence, Strong was taken in to custody Wednesday for attempted home invasion robbery with firearm.
