AVENTURA, FL. (AP) - A police officer shot and wounded a suspected car thief who authorities say refused to stop at a South Florida shopping mall parking garage.
Aventura police Sgt. Chris Goranitis says a man was shot early Wednesday afternoon outside the Aventura Mall. His wounds weren't considered life-threatening. Goranitis says the public was not in any danger, and no suspects were at large.
Goranitis says the unidentified man, allegedly driving a stolen car, was shot in the arm after refusing an officer's orders to stop. The would-be thief allegedly tried to run over the officer and crashed into parked cars before he was shot.
A woman riding in the car was not injured.
The mall located north of Miami remained open for business.
