SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) — Police in coastal Georgia are offering tips to bolster the security of gifts and the homes they're being opened in this holiday season.
Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police say citizens should avoid posting photos of new gifts on social media sites in case burglars are scanning for easy targets. Authorities say citizens should also wait until returning home before posting information and photos about attending out of town holiday celebrations in case burglars are scanning for potential victims who are away.
Police say consumers should inscribe high priced gifts like televisions, computers and other goods with a unique identification number that is not the same as the owner's social security number.
Authorities say consumers should also take inventory of their gifts, and be skeptical of people making unexpected knocks at the door.
