MIAMI (AP) - Police say a South Florida man has died days after being shot by a neighbor during a dispute over a dog defecating in a yard.
Miami-Dade police say 52-year-old Jose Rey was shot on June 22 and died Monday.
Sixty-six-year-old Omar Rodriguez is in jail on charges of attempted second-degree murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Officials say the charges will likely be upgraded following Rey's death.
An arrest report says the shooting occurred during an argument that began when Rey's dog tried to defecate in Rodriguez's son's yard. A neighbor told police he saw Rodriguez fire two shots at Rey, who was taken to Kendall Regional Medical Center.
Court records show Rodriguez's attorney, Alan Ross, says Rey started the argument and came after Rodriguez with a knife.
