BRADENTON, Fla. -- Bradenton police are searching for a suspect who witnesses say fatally shot a man known as the "ice cream man" during an argument and then stomped on his head while small children were nearby.
Police say Jose Luis Mendoza-Aguilar and the suspect had been arguing near an intersection Saturday evening when the suspect pulled a handgun and shot the victim several times. While Mendoza-Aguilar was lying on the ground, the suspect stomped on his head and then drove away in a silver or gold pickup truck.
The victim died at a hospital later that night.
Nearby resident Esbeyda Agustin tells the Bradenton Herald that the victim was shot where he frequently sold ice cream from a cart.
Investigators have described the suspect as a short, thin, Hispanic man in his late 20s.
