TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A man was arrested after repeatedly exposing himself and masturbating in front of women at a Tallahassee apartment complex.
Dietrick Marcel Sutherland Jr., 22 was arrested by the Leon County Sheriff's Office on Monday.
According to the police report, at least five times, Sutherland Jr., exposed himself and masturbated in front of women at Alight Apartments on W. Tennessee St., between Aug. 29, 2018 and Sept. 18, 2018.
In two of the incidents, he exposed his genital area and followed the victims to the third floor of their apartment.
On Sept. 18, 2018, the apartments sent residents an email advising them about Sutherland.
The next day, Sutherland called a Tallahassee Police Department investigator and "was evasive when asked where he was accused of exposing himself." First Sutherland said in the middle of Tallahassee, but eventually said Frenchtown.
Sutherland did not provide his current address or the name of anyone who told him he was being investigated for exposing himself.
Sutherland was described as a potential tenant at the apartment complex who toured it in July 2017, but he never signed a contract, stating he needed something more affordable.
On Sept. 26, 2018, a woman was getting dressed when she saw someone from outside peeking into her bedroom through her window blinds.
When she went outside, she did not see anyone, and returned to her apartment, but when she got back inside, she saw Sutherland Jr. looking into her apartment.
She said the man appeared to be homeless because he was so unkempt, the court document said, and when she asked him what he was doing, he stuttered, dropped his pants, and exposed his genitals.
The victim quickly returned to her apartment and called the police, saying she would recognize him if she saw him again.
On Sept. 28, 2018, the investigator received another notification that a man matching Sutherland's description had exposed himself to a woman at Alight Apartments. The woman identified Sutherland from a photo lineup.
Sutherland was trespassed from the Kearney Center, a homeless shelter, in May 2018 for threatening staff there and has not been associated with any residence since then, the court document said.
He faces charges of sex offense voyeurism and indecent exposure in public.
He was booked into the Leon County Detention Center and his bond has been set at $2,000.
