PORT ORANGE, Fla. (AP) — A Florida man faces a second-degree murder charge after allegedly shooting another driver following a minor traffic crash.
Port Orange Police say a van driven by 63-year-old Robert M. Gelles of Holly Hill rear-ended a truck slowing down for a traffic light Sunday afternoon. The truck's 44-year-old driver got out to talk to Gelles, who remained in his van.
That's when police say Gelles shot the other driver, whose name hasn't been released. He was pronounced dead at a hospital. An autopsy is scheduled Monday.
Police Chief Gerald Monahan tells The Daytona Beach News-Journal (http://bit.ly/1glE6Dh ) that there's "no justifiable reason" for the shooting. He says Gelles' van had minor damage after the crash.
Gelles is being held without bail. Volusia County jail records don't show whether he has an attorney.
