Police: Man Fatally Stabbed with a Broken Golf Club

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — A northeast Florida man was fatally stabbed in the neck with a broken golf club after police say an argument between roommates over bills ended in violence.

Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Lt. Steve Gallaher says 66-year-old Albert Garvin was arrested Friday after officers found his roommate lying in the street.

Gallaher says Garvin's roommate Barry Rodney Johnson had threatened Garvin with knives after the two argued over paying the bills.

Police say Garvin broke a golf club over Johnson's head and then used the shaft of the broken club to stab him in the neck. Gallaher says Garvin was also dating Johnson's sister.

Garvin was appointed a public defender Monday after the court declared him indigent.
