TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A Tallahassee man is out on assault charges after police say he fled from a hit-and-run scene, caused a second car crash and pulled a gun on a man.
According to court documents, Tallahassee police responded to a traffic crash at the intersection of Blaire Stone Road and Centerville Road on Sunday.
When police arrived on scene, they began speaking with a victim of the crash. The victim told police that he and a few friends were leaving a night club when the driver, 23-year-old Jeremy Gurley, ran into a parked car.
The victim said officers tried to stop Gurley, but he fled from the scene. As they were driving, Gurley kept swerving into traffic. The victim told police that he suggested that he drive since Gurley was too drunk.
When the victim continued driving, Gurley randomly "yanked" the steering wheel, causing the victim to loose control and hit a tree.
The victim said Gurley was so angry after the crash that he pulled a gun on him. The victim then ran away from the scene, "because he was scared he was going to be shot."
Documents say police then spoke to a witness whose account matched the victim's story.
When police spoke with Gurley, they noted that he smelled like alcohol and had to lean on the car to keep his balance. Gurley told officers that everything the victim stated was a lie. However, when they searched Gurley, found a gun in his pocket.
After investigating, police arrested and transported Gurley to the Leon County Detention Facility. He is being charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and carrying a firearm while intoxicated.
Gurley since has bonded out.
