TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Tallahassee Police are investigating after receiving numerous reports about a car that was allegedly involved in an abduction attempt in Tallahassee.
The Tallahassee Police Department says that they have looked into the reports and so far, have found no credible information involving a tagless silver Impala.
"People have expressed their concern over the driver of this vehicle using a ruse to get the attention of young females in order to try and abduct them," police wrote on Facebook. "We have no official report of an abduction attempt with this vehicle."
They say they've received several reports about men inside the car approaching people in the parking lots at Big and Walmart, asking for money to buy gas. However, police have not been able to find evidence that the men inside the car were involved in attempted abductions.
So far, investigators have been unable to find any victims who have been touched or grabbed by the men in the car. And despite rumors, police say there is no evidence to suggest a correlation between the silver Impala and Reginald Gibson, the man accused of murdering 26-year-old Elisa Thompson.
Some people also shared pictures of a similar car parked behind a business on Tallahassee's southside, claiming the car was hidden there. Police followed up on the tip and excluded the car as a potential problem.
TPD reports there is no immediate threat to the public at this time. Police say they are continuing to investigate the claims and say they are reviewing surveillance video.
If you have experienced anything suspicious or had anyone try to lure you to their vehicle, please call TPD at 850-606-5800 or 911 to request an officer, email TPDinfo@talgov.com or message them on Facebook.
