THOMASVILLE, GA (WTXL) -- Police are investigating claims that a 3-year-old was sexually assaulted by a juvenile at Mt. Zion Daycare Center.

According to the incident report, the victim's mother contacted police after her child told her what happened late Monday evening.

Police say that the other juvenile involved is believed to be in the 5th grade.

An initial interview was conducted with the victim's mother at the hospital to get the context of the alleged incident. The following day, investigators conducted a similar interview with the victim to get specific details about the crime.

However, Lieutenant Maurice Holmes of the Thomasville Criminal Investigation Bureau informs ABC27 that no disclosure was made following the interview.

Holmes explains what a disclosure could mean for the case. "A disclosure is when the child tells what actually occurred...describes that to the point where it's understood. It's either a strong disclosure or a weak disclosure. Each investigation dictates on however the disclosure is made it depends on the strength of that disclosure as far as it happened or it didn't."

Investigators will now conduct a similar type interview with the suspect to determine if a disclosure of guilt can be made on their behalf or if there is any implication of the suspect experience sexual abuse as well.

The incident report lists the location of the assault as Mt. Zion Daycare on McKinley Street in Thomasville. The daycare is now being investigated by state officials with the Department of Children and Families, which audits a facility following reports concerning the welfare of children in a daycare.
