MADISON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - Two people were arrested after they led enforcement on a high-speed chase in a stolen car through Madison County.
Morris McCray, 41, and Deidre Reed, 41, of Madison County, were arrested by the Madison County Sheriff's on Friday.
According to MCSO, around 1:03 a.m. on Friday, deputies were called to a home on S.W. State Road in response to a complaint of a stolen car.
The victim told deputies that she woke up just after midnight and found that her 2006 Dodge Charger was stolen from her yard.
At about 1:41 a.m., a Madison Police Department officer saw McCray driving the stolen car on Ohio Street.
The MPD officer continued to follow McCray until other officers and deputies could respond and help with a felony traffic stop.
MCSO stated once McCray left the residential area and turned south onto State Road 14, deputies tried to stop him by activating emergency lights and sirens.
McCray refused to stop and accelerated.
MCSO said when deputies tried to stop McCray, he intentionally rammed the Charger into the passenger side of a deputy's patrol truck.
McCray continued to drive south on State Road 14 exceeding 100 mph with multiple units in pursuit.
Once the pursuit neared the intersection of SR 14 and Sun Down Creek Road, McCray abruptly stopped, and Reed got out of the Charger.
Reed was then arrested by deputies.
McCray accelerated and continued to drive at a high rate of speed.
Deputies were able to catch up to McCray and using their patrol vehicles, were able to force McCray to spin out into the ditch.
McCray tried to continue driving out of the ditch, forcing deputies to ram the Charger in the passenger side door, pinning it against the trees.
McCray was taken into custody with the assistance of MPD officers without injury or further incident.
McCray is being charged with grand theft of a motor vehicle, eluding police at high speed, resisting an officer, driving while license suspended or revoked, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Reed is being charged with two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.
