MONTEBELLO, Calif. (AP) — Los Angeles police say a driver who smashed several cars and stole vehicle at gunpoint before being shot by officers is a 29-year-old gang member.
Officer Liliana Preciado said Tuesday that Aaron Lorta is in stable condition at a hospital, where he has been interviewed by detectives. He could face charges including carjacking.
The chase Tuesday spanned several Southern California cities and freeways. Officers opened fire when the man ran down a street and apparently tried to steal another car.
Lorta is held on $100,000 bail. It's not immediately known if he has a lawyer.
