GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WTXL) - One police department in Michigan says they are cancelling crime on the coldest day the state has seen since 1994.

Wednesday morning, the Grand Rapids Police Department gave a notice to "all criminals, conspiring criminals, or bored individuals that have too much time on their hands":

Citing the closure of schools, businesses, and city services, they say they are "officially canceling crime so officers can focus on helping those in need and improving quality of life for our residents."

According to the U.S. National Weather Service for Grand Rapids, Michigan, Wednesday has been the coldest day since 1994.

With wind chill readings falling to as low as -35 degrees, NWS Grand Rapids says that it's "life-threateningly" cold. In fact, it's so cold experts say uncovered fingers or ears could get frostbite in just 15 minutes.

So what should aspiring criminals do instead? The Grand Rapids Police Department suggests watching Netflix or helping a neighbor.

"Congratulations!" the post read. "Feel free to take a nap, binge watch Netflix, or go help your neighbor shovel."

Other police departments in the Midwest have also been asking that residents keep "criminalling to a minimum."

The Noblesville Police Department in Indiana also banned "all crime and illegal activities" due to the extreme cold temperatures.
