CAPE CORAL, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say one man is dead after a police officer-involved shooting at a Florida home.
The News-Press of Fort Myers (http://newspr.es/1SkCCIb) reports the Cape Coral Police Department said in a statement that the incident happened Thursday evening.
Police say officers responded to the home for a report of a terminally ill man with a gun.
Police say when officers arrived, the unidentified man came outside and began shooting at officers, who returned fire. The subject went back into the house.
Authorities say officers heard a shot fired from within the house and went inside, where they found the man dead. No officers were injured.
Authorities are investigating.
Police say the officer who fired the weapon will be placed on administrative leave, pending the investigation, which is standard.
