MIAMI (AP) — Police have arrested two teenagers in the fatal shooting of a 6-year-old boy who was gunned down while playing outside his Miami apartment complex.
Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez and police officials said at a news conference Wednesday that 18-year-old Leonard Adams and a 17-year-old male were jailed on charges of second-degree murder and first-degree attempted murder. Police also named the 17-year-old, but The Associated Press does not generally identify juveniles charged with crimes.
Jail and court records did not yet list an attorney for the suspects. Authorities say they were charged in the Saturday shooting of first-grader King Carter, who was an innocent bystander.
Authorities say more arrests are possible. They are searching for an older, dark-colored Lexus sedan that may have bullet holes.
The shooting sparked community outrage and an anti-violence march.
