JACKSONVILLE, FL (WTXL) - As Floridians and travelers become increasingly concerned about the Zika virus, poison control centers are helping the state establish a Zika Hotline.
The Florida Department of Health has established a Zika Hotline and has partnered with the Department’s Poison Control Centers to allow health professionals staffing the Centers to handle these calls.
"Most people know Poison Control Centers for their ability to administer medical treatment advice during poisoning emergencies, but many do not realize that these Centers also support the response to public health crises," said Alfred Aleguas, managing director of the Florida Poison Control Center in Tampa.
The Florida Zika Hotline has managed more than 5,600 calls so far. To call the Florida Zika Hotline dial 1 (855) 622-6735.
