LEON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - Monday night is the second in a series of community meetings about the comprehensive Land Use Element Plan.
The plan is part of the Tallahassee-Leon County public policy that guides how our community grows in the future.
Organizers with the planning department say, after the first community meeting, they came up with five goals for the Leon County community to meet over the next 20 to 30 years.
The goals of the Land Use Element is to maintain a healthy community by protecting our natural resources and existing neighborhoods.
At the workshop, the planning department is seeking community input on ways to achieve a flourishing economy, balanced transportation system, and, overall, a place people want to live.
"We want to be a place where people can start businesses and have them flourish in our community to having a balanced transportation system. Making sure people have the facilities people need to get around the community," said Artie White, a comprehensive planning administrator. "We're looking at housing diversity."
White says, a popular topic at the first meeting was ways to protect the environment and places the community hopes to preserve, while accommodating the growing Leon County population.
Monday night, he is hoping to further that conversation with the community, as well as get new ideas.
