TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) -- Today, the Delta Kappa Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, hosted a community lunch and learn event called Pink goes red.
The purpose of the event is raising awareness about heart disease and stroke on National Wear Red Day. Women of all ages attended the event, saying they want to empower themselves to know more about their heart health. Doctor Kristi Reese, the keynote speaker, tells us,women often focus on breast cancer, but today's event represents the importance of knowing your cardiovascular health.
Doctor Reese adds, "I think it's important to know your blood pressure. I also think it's important to know your hemoglobin a1c and to know your cholesterol numbers. Those numbers play a great role in the development of cardiovascular disease. "
Doctor Reese says, getting ahead of your health and knowing your numbers, decrease your chance for heart disease and stroke.
Heart disease is the number 1 killer in women, and today's event hopes to educate the community on ways to manage our health.
