PINELLAS PARK, Fla. (AP) — The Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority says it will cover half of a passenger's Uber bill if they're going to or from a bus stop in a designated zone.
The Tampa Bay Times reports (http://bit.ly/1VzSAyP) that the partnership, which also works with United Cab, is the first of its kind in the country.
The transit authority will pay half the cost of a ride in the cities of Pinellas Park or East Lake, up to $3, that is destined for or originating from a bus stop and within the designated geographic zone. If the pilot project goes well, transit officials say expansion is an option.
Figuring out how to get riders from where the bus ends to their ultimate destination is one of the biggest problems for transit agencies.
