TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) - Deputies are saying no one was injured after a small airplane had to make an emergency landing on Capital Circle Southwest Thursday morning.

The single engine aircraft landed on the road around 2:10 a.m. approximately one mile south of Orange Avenue, according to the Leon County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies say the pilot was traveling from Texas and made an attempt to refuel at the airport on Highway 27 North without realizing that airport is no longer open.

When the pilot realized he could not land and refuel there, deputies say he attempt to fly to the Tallahassee International Airport but ran out of fuel before making it to the runway.

The plane landed in the middle of the road when the wing struck a tree causing the plane to spin and come to a rest on the shoulder of the road.

WTXL reached out to the pilot, who was unable to comment on the incident. He did mention, however, that he was glad that no one was hurt.

LCSO says the NTSB and the FAA have been notified of the incident.
