VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) - Police is warning you about a scam call circulating the Valdosta area where a caller says you've won $6 million.

According to the Valdosta Police Department, several residents have received a phone call from a 717 area code and were told they won $6 million.

The caller then told the victims to travel to a local WalMart and transfer a small registration fee to an outside account. VPD says the victims instead called officers before they transferred any money.

Officers called the 717 number and identified themselves as police officers, at which time the caller hung up the phone.

VPD states, "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is."
