TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) -- Phase III of the Gaines Street project is continuing in Tallahassee.
The intersection at Gaines Street and Woodward Avenue is closed for construction. Gaines Street is closed from Stadium Drive to Railroad Avenue, and Woodward is closed south of Madison Street.
Access to business will remain open, but those who travel through the area say getting around can still be difficult.
"If I hadn't been a student here for four years I would be completely lost, it's only that I know my way around the campus that I actually know how to get around with the roads being closed. It's kind of like well I thought they had this opened up and we could drive through, but I think that we working on this road forever,” said commuter Joseph Dugger.
Officials say the construction will help to build a more pedestrian friendly downtown area.
Construction on the project is expected to end on August 22, just in time for classes to resume.
