TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) -- If you're still making your New Year's resolutions, don't forget your pets!
Southwood Animal Hospital is hosting an animal weight loss competition.
During the first week of January, bring your pet in for an initial weigh in, and chat with a vet to go over a weight loss plan. You'll also get a starter kit and the first food allotment.
The vets have each picked a couple of dogs and cats who are up to the challenge to be on their team. The goal is to lose the most weight over six months.
Dogs will also use a Voyce collars, which measure a dog's physical activity such as HR and calories burned. Experts say that helps them know "if the contestant needs to increase physical activity in order to lose more weight."
Pets will come in for a monthly weigh in, and a tech will do weekly phone check-ins with owners.Pets with the highest percentage of body fat lost will win a $200 Amazon gift card, courtesy of Voyce.
The Animal Hospital & Pet Resort at Southwood is located at 2528 Capital Circle Southeast in Tallahassee.
