PERRY, FL (WTXL) -- A package was found on the doorsteps of the Glorious Rain Church of God of Prophecy in Perry just before 3 p.m. Tuesday that prompted the church's pastor to notify police.

According to Perry Chief of Police Jamie Cruse, after picking up the package, the pastor reported that it felt heavier than he expected it to, causing him to become highly suspicious. Chief Cruse also said that the pastor's suspicion was heightened due to recent events that have happened involving the church and the pastor. However, police would not go into detail about what those recent events were.

Chief Cruse said that the way in which the pastor conveyed the information over the phone led them to believe it was a serious matter and the department called a bomb squad in for assistance.

After about three hours on scene, crews identified the package as containing booklets that were titled "God Guarantees to Heal You." Investigators said that at this time they do not know who the booklets belong to or why they were left on the doorsteps of the church.

Chief Cruse said that donations to religious institutions are common in Perry, but that nothing similar to this particular situation has occurred recently.
