PERRY, FL (WTXL) -- Local businesses are gearing up for a busy week of holiday shopping with a focus on "Small Business Saturday."

Perry has more than 100 vendors getting ready for the big weekend. This is the first year the city has registered for a "Small Business Saturday" designation with American Express.

Debbie Hall, owner of gift boutique Debbie's Jewels, was chosen as Perry's ambassador to register the city. She said Small Business Saturday is an opportunity to support local businesses for the holidays.

"It is important to come see us, because we're offering a wider variety of inventory, new products and then that same great hometown service that you get only locally," Hall said.

According to American Express, 95 million people shopped at local businesses on "Small Business Saturday" in 2015.
