TAYLOR COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - A Perry man died Wednesday night after his motorcycle was involved in a crash with a pickup truck.

Robert Lee Smith, 68, was pronounced dead at a hospital following the 7:15 p.m. Wednesday crash, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The crash occurred on Beach Road just south of White Oak Road. A pickup was traveling south on Beach road and preparing to turn left into a private driveway.

The motorcycle was traveling south behind the pickup and two other vehicles.

Smith began to pass the vehicles on the left in a no-passing zone, FHP said.

As the driver of the pickup began to turn left, the motorcycle sideswiped the left front side of the pickup and then traveled onto the east shoulder and overturned.

Smith was thrown from the motorcycle.

The pickup came to a controlled stop in the private driveway.

Smith was transported to Doctor’s Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
