WINTER HAVEN, FL (WTXL) - Police say a 9-year-old Perry boy who nearly drowned while on vacation in Winter Haven has died.
According to the Winter Haven Police Department, Thomas Ingram, Jr. was in the shallow end of the hotel pool with his 10-year-old friend.
The 10-year-old saw Thomas was at the bottom of the pool in the deep end and knew he could not swim, according to police.
The child pulled Thomas from the bottom and held his head above the water while he called to a family friend for help. Police say another person at the pool jumped in and helped pull Thomas out.
Police say a hotel staff member gave Thomas CPR and he was taken to the hospital by helicopter. He died at the hospital several days later.
The family was in the area taking Thomas to Legoland for "his dream vacation," according to a GoFundMe page set up for the family.
