GRADY COUNTY, Ga. (WTXL) - Students at Cairo High School were sent home early on Thursday after pepper spray was released, getting into the ventilation system.
According to the Grady County School District's Facebook page, there was a situation at Cairo High School where pepper spray was released.
The school district said as a result, the spray got into the ventilation system and all students were evacuated from the main building to the gym.
After talking with the fire department, the school let the students go to lunch and then let them go home. Buses began running at 11:30 a.m. for the students.
The school district said anyone that needs to remain at CHS can do so in the College and Career building.
Students were released at 11:30 a.m.
In their Facebook post, the school district said the safety of the students and staff is their first concern and they will work Thursday afternoon to make sure the ventilation system is clear for school on Friday.
