People can get financial help when neutering their pets

THOMASVILLE, Ga. (WTXL)--People in Thomasville can now get some financial help when paying to have their pets spayed or neutered.

It's called SNIP or spay and neuter incentive program.

SNIP is income-based. Those who qualify could be eligible for the services at a reduced rate of $50 for cats or $70 dogs.

The Thomasville-Thomas County Humane Society Board President Lindy Dewert says the program helps battle the issue of animal overpopulation.

In order to qualify for SNIP those interested must show:

1. Valid picture I.D. and one of the following:

‐ EBT Card

‐ Medicaid Card

‐ Unemployment Check Stub (and most recent tax return)

‐ Disability “Award Letter” (and most recent tax return)

OR

2. Valid picture I.D. and most recent income tax return placing you in one

of the following income categories:

‐ One-adult household with income less than $25,000 per year

‐ Two-adult household with income less than $40,000 per year

SNIP will be coordinated through the Humane Society but implemented at the local veterinary offices.

The TTCHS will be responsible for collecting the money, screening applicants/verifying income-based

eligibility, and dispensing official SNIP certificates. Participating veterinary clinics include: Clanton-

Malphus-Hodges Veterinary Hospital, Thomasville Animal Hospital, Young’s Veterinary Clinic, and

Cairo Animal Hospital.

Program will be limited to residents of Thomas & Grady counties. Proof of current rabies vaccination is

required, or there will be an additional charge of $10 for vaccination on the day of surgery.
