TIFTON, GA (WALB) - People camped out in Tifton to try to get free food.

The new Chick-fil-A there was set to open Thursday morning at 6 and residents said they were prepared to spend the night in the rain to fulfill their Chick-fil-A cravings, including a woman who is eight months pregnant.

What would you do for a one-year supply of free Chick-fil-a meals?

"I mean who doesn't want 52 free meals of Chick-fil-A?" said Katherine Kendrick.

But would you camp out in the rain?

People in Tifton did just that Wednesday night and the weather didn't stop them.

"I've got a tent over my head and if you drive by, just give us a little toot and we will holler back at you," said Kendrick.

"We're from South Georgia, this is it. You live with what you get. It's hot, it's humid, it's going to be wet, you deal with it," said Jaycee Dillard.

At Thursday's grand reopening, the first 100 customers will receive 52 free meals and some waited longer than others.

"All of 45 minutes, just got started and the day has been easy so far," said Dillard.

"I've been out here since 6 a.m. this morning and I plan on staying until 6 a.m. tomorrow, so a whole 24 hours," said Kerigan Waldschlager.

Waldschlager is 34 weeks pregnant and said she's waited for this day for a long time.

"They've been closed since February and I've been craving Chick-fil-A this whole time," explained Waldschlager.

She said people were surprised when they heard about how far along she was, but she said she needed to get her Chick-fil-A fix.

Kathleen Barfield had a special number in the lineup, number one, and she got up early for that spot.

"I woke up at 4, got here at 4:30," said Barfield.

Barfield said it was an experience that was worth it, but maybe she won't do it again.

The first 100 will be awarded around 5:45 a.m.

There were 99 people in line around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday night.

Chick-fil-A tore down its former Tifton store in February to rebuild one designed to serve three times as many customers.

The new restaurant will officially be open at 6 a.m. on Thursday.
