VALDOSTA, GA (WTXL) - A person died after being hit by a vehicle in Valdosta Wednesday night.

According to officials with the Georgia State Patrol, the accident happened near the intersection of Mt. Zion and Rocky Ford Roads.

Troopers said that around 8:20 p.m., a 2011 Chevrolet Malibu driven by 31-year-old Randi Parsons of Valdosta was heading north on Rocky Ford Road.

The driver did not see a person, now identified as 32-year-old Zachary Kolberg of Valdosta, laying on the side of the road and hit the Kolberg's upper body with the bumper of the vehicle.

Troopers say Parsons stopped her car immediately and her and a witness driving behind her began performing CPR.

Kolberg was transported by Lowndes EMS to South Georgia Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival. Parsons was not injured in the crash.

Troopers suspect alcohol may be a contributing factor to Kolberg lying in the roadway but will be pending a toxicology report. Alcohol or drugs are not considered to be a contributing factor for Parsons, however, a voluntary blood sample was taken for a toxicology report.

They note that road where the crash took place was not illumined. No charges are expected to be filed the crash.
