DANIA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say a man killed earlier this week when he was struck by a Tri-Rail train in South Florida was blind.
Broward Sheriff's officials said Thursday that Michael Nesmith, 55, became blind as a teenager due to an accident, and that he may have been disoriented when he walked onto the tracks. He was struck Tuesday at the Dania Beach Station near Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. The train was heading north when it struck Nesmith.
The crash caused major delays during Tuesday morning's rush hour.
