LOWNDES COUNTY, Ga. (WTXL)--A pedestrian was hit and killed on U.S. Highway 84 in Lowndes County. The driver left the scene of the accident, and later told troopers he thought he hit a deer.
It all happened around 5:40 Tuesday morning. Georgia State Patrol troopers were called out to Highway 84 one mile east of CCC Road. The pedestrian was identified as 38-year-old Johnny Eugene Roe.
Troopers say Roe was running east on highway 84 in the westbound lanes against traffic along the median. They say Roe entered the right westbound lane and was hit by several vehicles. He died at the scene. Debris revealed a silver Jeep Cherokee was involved in the crash and left the scene. Troopers tracked down the SUV at a nearby business. The driver thought he hit a deer.
No charges are expected to be filed.
