DECATUR COUNTY, Ga. (WTXL)--A pedestrian is dead after being hit on highway 84 in Decatur County.

Decatur County deputies say the body of 57-year old Louis J. Kirsteatter Jr. of Bloomington, Illinois was found in the middle of the westbound outside lane on U.S. 84 East Thursday morning at 4:25. He was discovered about half a mile outside the city limits of Bainbridge.

Investigators say a truck driver arrived on scene saying he thought he hit the man. The driver was released from the scene. Investigators say if the trucker hit him, it may have been the second vehicle to run over him.

Once they wrapped up the scene, they learned that a car with an Illinois tag drove into the L&J Used Appliance building on North Broad Street.

They figured out, it was Kirsteatter. They think he wrecked his car between 12:45 a.m. and 3:30.

He then started walking when he was hit and killed. No foul play is suspected. Kirsteatter's family told investigators he had some health issues. They don't know why he was in south Georgia.
