THOMAS COUNTY, Ga. (WTXL) -  A pedestrian was killed after being hit by a car on the side of the road in Thomasville.

According to Georgia State Patrol, 42-year-old David Newman was hit in Thomasville on Tuesday night at about 6:45 p.m. on Highway 319 near Hubbard Lane.

GSP states Newman was believed to be walking or riding a bicycle.

At this time, GSP is not sure whether or not he was physically on the bike riding it.

According to GSP, Newman was on the side of the road when a white Chevy Equinox, driven by 21-year-old Anthony Massey, hit him.

He was declared dead on scene.

Investigators are unsure whether or not charges will be filed against Massey at this time, but have no reason to believe that he was impaired at the time of the accident.

Blood samples from both Newman and Massey were taken and are being sent to the Moultrie crime lab.

This is an open and active investigation.

Thomas County Sheriff's Office assisted GSP on-scene.
