TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Community leaders from the City of Tallahasse and Leon County say road closures on Magnolia Drive will be worth the wait. Crews will be constructing a 10-foot wide multi-use on the south side of Magnolia Dr. from South Meridian St. to Pontiac Rd.
To make way for the construction starting Monday, Magnolia Dr. is closed between Meridian and Jim Lee Rd.
The trail will ultimately extend to Apalachee Parkway with the goal of giving the community better access to parks, schools, businesses, and shopping districts.
"This project is all about connectivity," said Kathy Burke, the Acting Director of Leon County Works.
Crews will also take advantage of the road closures to make some much needed water and sewer improvements.
Work on Phase I of the trail and these improvements is expected to take until Summer 2016, with completion of the trail expected in 3 years.
