SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) - Finding a parking space just got tougher for workers and tourists visiting Savannah's downtown historic district.

WTOC-TV reports (http://bit.ly/2cQ6XT0 ) City Hall is declaring parking spaces along busy Bay Street off-limits for the next month. The change, which affects roughly 12 blocks near the popular Savannah riverfront, took effect Sunday and will last until October 9.

Savannah officials are restricting parking along Bay Street to see if they can improve safety along the heavily traveled thoroughfare. There have been problems with collisions in the area, including one in which a bicyclist was killed by a truck in June.

City officials plan to see if on-street spaces used for parking can be used to widen lanes of traffic and install a median.
