LAKE CITY, Fla. (AP) - The parents of two young sisters involved in the fatal shooting of their 16-year-old brother have been sentenced to 10 years of probation, including two years of house arrest.
Local media reported the Lake City couple pleaded guilty Wednesday to felony child abuse and neglect charges. Their trial had been scheduled for January.
The shooting occurred on Jan. 5 while the parents were away.
Authorities said earlier that the older girl, 15 years old at the time, was subject to abuse at home and frequently locked in a room with only a blanket and a bucket. The younger sister was 11 years old.
The Associated Press is not naming the couple because of the girls' ages and the abuse allegations.
