QUITMAN, Ga. (WTXL)--Three children are safe after police say a teacher came forward with suspicions of abuse.
The two parents are jail on cruelty to children charges.
Bruising on a nine year old child's hands at Quitman Elementary School is what police say a teacher saw and immediately notified school administrators.
"Child abuse to me, we take it very seriously," said Lt. Willie Clemons with the Quitman Police Department.
After an extensive investigation, the nine year old boy and his two brothers, ages five and six are now in the custody of the Department of Family and Children's Services.
Alfa Niomie Chavez-Romero and Rafael Lopez-Niz are both charged with three counts of child cruelty.
A harsh reminder that Lt. Willie Clemons hopes to drive home.
"Pay attention to kids," said Lt. Clemons. "Pay attention to abuse, report it to law enforcement."
